A Taste of Nashville Hot Chicken Royalty Pops Up in Glendale This Weekend

Hotville Chicken

Plus Dominique Ansel pancakes, and Cafe de Leche turns 10

Keep it hot

Chef Kim Prince is bringing her Hotville Chicken pop-up to Glendale Tap this Saturday, working a menu of seriously spicy bird from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. If the last name sounds familiar, know that Prince is indeed directly related to the famous Prince family out of Nashville, known colloquially as the originators of hot chicken itself. And while Hotville Chicken is certainly its own, separately successful business, it’s still great to see the Prince name attached to some seriously good hot chicken in LA. The weekend event is 21+ only.

Hayato hero

LA Magazine has lots of love for Hayato, the tiny Japanese restaurant at the Row. The six-seat kaiseki experience is “steeped in the nuances of washoku, or traditional Japanese cooking, presented in a format that’s time-honored and intricately attuned to the seasons.”

The decade

Cafe de Leche is turning ten years young in Highland Park this month. The anchor tenant on York has managed to thrive in the face of growing competition, and is now doing a big weekend celebration to all their success.

Market growth

San Pedro Fish Market Grille has a new location to know about down in Harbor City. The casual spin-off from the classic market lands at 1313 W. Sepulveda Blvd. with a menu that ranges from fried calamari and fish burritos to ceviche and four-person platters of shrimp.

Sunday dinner

Freedman’s in Silver Lake is now doing Sunday dinners. The strip mall modern Jewish-ish restaurant will rock plates of smoked fish, matzoh ball soup, and mutton from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. weekly, with the option for delivery as well.

Pancake party

Dominique Ansel’s restaurant at the Grove is turning one, and to ring in the next chapter the team is doing two full days of a blowout pancake party. The lovingly-titled Daniel’s House of Pancakes will see family-style platters of pancakes of all kinds, from blueberry buckwheat to dutch babies to crepes and even potato pancakes. The weekend-only event runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Brunch o’clock

The new Atrium in Los Feliz starts daytime service this weekend. Look for cocktails, of course, but also hearty stuff like biscuits, fried egg banh mi, and of course a burger.
