“After so many years of planning and development, to be opening in Los Angeles… is absolutely thrilling”
The 12-screen theater will open next month at the southeast corner on the second and third levels of The Bloc shopping center on Seventh Street in Downtown LA’s Financial District, above the 7th/Metro Center subway station. (An exact date for the opening will be announced in the coming weeks, a rep for Alamo tells Curbed.)
The inaugural lineup at the theater will be “independent and blockbuster films, as well as a wealth of repertory titles featuring beloved classics and hard-to-find cult favorites,” according to the announcement.
The theater was first announced for this location in 2014. At the time, it was one of a roster of hip new tenants brought on to transform the once-impenetrable retail fortress into a more open and modern destination.
“After so many years of planning and development, to be opening in Los Angeles with such a strong team of movie-lovers at the helm is absolutely thrilling,” Alamo Drafthouse founder and CEO Tim League said in a statement.
